Momentum is building towards the 2015 season with North Beach making a number of key coaching appointments.
With senior coach, former West Coast, Port Adelaide and South Fremantle premiership player David Hynes preparing for his third year at the helm, the club has been active in the off-season.
The structure around – and under Hynes – has seen a transformation with multiple premiership hero and former A-Grade captain Scott Holbrook assuming the role as coach of the A-Reserves, with another North Beach stalwart, Greg Pires, as his assistant.
Another former captain, Anthony “Chooka” Ingham has also moved up to take over as one of the A-Grade line coaches (backs), while Mark Bradley, a former VFL player with extensive coaching experience in Queensland, and Phil Carey, a man with strong North Beach connections, will also assume line coaching responsibilities.
Bradley will look after the midfield, while Carey takes over the forwards.
The appointment of Holbrook, who played in the third grade last season, and Pires ensures a strong connection with the immediate past and an emerging group of young players should benefit enormously from their presence.
Another key appointment has been the move of Ross Jevons from the A-Reserves position to Brett Jones Colts coach, where he will be assisted by the man who last year guided that team, Chris Blakeney.
While those changes have occurred, stability has been retained with Hynes, Bill Duckworth (D1-Grade), Daniel Wheeler (D1-Reserves), Novak Smith (E2-Grade) and Craig Dalton (Phil Scott Colts) all re-committing.
Duckworth, senior coaching for 16 years and 10 premierships, and Smith, both led their teams to grand finals in 2014, Smith doing a terrific job guiding his team to the big dance after assuming the mantle mid-season.
Dalton has been in charge of the colts program for the last two years and has been the catalyst in the creation of a vibrant and united group, who also enjoyed an outstanding 2014 campaign, going down by just eight points in the grand final.
The Beach is building and with seven teams (five seniors and two colts) there is level for anyone looking to play at community level. Prospective players should contact Football Manager Gary Stocks (0412 144 588). The club is excited about returning to Charles Riley Reserve after the completion of the best amateur facility in the State for the 2015 season and it is the only A-Grade club in Perth’s northern corridor.
