The WA Amateur Football League competition goes into a one-week hiatus as representative football takes over this long weekend, with North Beach well-placed in all grades.
Each of the club’s six senior teams is in the top five and are all in a position to cement their rankings over coming weeks.
When the competition resumes next weekend the club will play North Fremantle in all six grades and each of those contests should provide a mouth-watering match-up.
Bill Duckworth’s A-grade combination, which has had just one slip-up in the first six rounds, is on top of the table, on percentage from North Fremantle, and this looms as one of the games of the season.
There is a healthy respect between both clubs and this appeals as a highly entertaining match-up. Through the first six weeks, one of the most notable features of North Beach’s football has been the high degree of consistency within the structure and the capacity of all players to have an impact when required.
When this game starts at 2.30pm next Saturday that will doubtless be the message from Duckworth to his charges. The reserves side will also face an interesting battle against North Freo. At this stage Michael Pratt has his team sitting in fourth position on the table with four wins and two losses and they face the fifth-placed North Fremantle outfit.
The Phil Scott Colts have produced some sterling efforts in the last couple of weeks and are placed fourth on the ladder with four wins and two losses. North Fremantle have been the pace-setters and are undefeated (along with Scarborough) at the top of the ladder.
This match looms as an interesting contest for Richard Bewick’s combination, with this game setting the scene for an intriguing day’s football at Charles Riley Reserve, starting at 10.45am.
While that action takes place in the northern suburbs, three other important battles will unfold at Gil Fraser Reserve in the south. The day’s events will also start with the colts action in the Laurie Keene Division.
North Beach, under the tutelage of Dave Barwick and Gary Stocks, has lost just one game and is sitting in second position and will come up against the third-placed North Freo in what looms as an even contest.
Kane Kuenen’s E-Reserves rose to fifth position with a stirring win over Whitfords last week and they will come up against North Fremantle, who are sitting on top of the table.
The final game at Gil Fraser will see Steve Morrissey’s undefeated E-grade team tackle a North Fremantle combination which is sitting equal top.
On ladder positions alone, all matches loom as good battles and should provide great entertainment for all who can get to the venues. It will certainly provide the North Beach teams with a good challenge and a barometer for where they sit within the various grades.
