Club History
The North Beach Football Club is one of the biggest and most successful community sporting clubs in the country.
1964 to 1974 – “ Pioneers of North Beach Football club”
The close of football in 1963 saw a large number of junior players graduate from under age ranks with no where to play unless going to league clubs, the need to start a senior club for season 1964 was sounded out by local Mr Ernie Bennett who called a meeting to invite interested footballers to join the new North Beach Amateur Football Club.
The historic occasion of the birth of NBFC occurred in February 1964 with 22 people in attendance. This meeting voted Michael Gregory in as the inaugural President and decided at this meeting that season 1964 would be dedicated to fund raising for Guernsey’s and equipment.
From humble beginnings to a modern day powerhouse
The Club started with open air change rooms and cold showers and a road running in front of them, many teams were reluctant to make the long trip north to play The Beach.
The club has evolved from these humble beginnings to be a modern day power house both on and off the field catering for all levels of footballer.
North Beach Football Club has a underlying winning and close comradeship culture that needs to be experienced to appreciate the meaning and impact it has on footballers and supporters of this great club. The culture of NBFC has been instilled at the club since 1964 and has seen the club prosper in on field premiership success and vibrant social aspect to have a record that is the envy of all football clubs.
13 x A Grade Premierships
Today the North Beach club rooms, at Charles Riley Reserve, between the iconic Trigg and Sorrento beaches, is one of the premier facilities in the metropolitan area.
Each weekend the club is represented in 11 divisions of the Perth Football League. In the men’s competition it fields six senior teams and two colts (20 and under) sides every Saturday. It also fields two women’s teams in the competition that started in 2018, and has an Integrated team in the I-Grade competition.
Since 1989 North Beach has won 13 A-Grade premierships, including an unprecedented seven flags in succession from 2004 to 2010. That extraordinary run of success occurred under the direction of former Essendon premiership star and Norm Smith medallist Bill Duckworth.
