Beach keeps clean slate intact

A sense of satisfaction was the over-riding emotion as the North Beach contingent left Morris Buzzacott Reserve in Kardinya last Saturday.

Victories are tough to achieve at the home of Fremantle CBC, but the Beach walked into the ground with a clean sheet in both the O’Rourke Realty A-Grade and the Lifenet A-Reserves and departed with that record intact.

The O’Rourke Realty A-Grade started strongly, never relinquished their ascendancy and powered their way to 34-point victory – 11.4 (70) to 5.6 (36).

While the victory alone was satisfying so, too, was the return of key forward Ryan Ekert in his first game in the seniors after seriously injury a knee last year. He kicked five goals and has quickly established a rapport with veteran Mitch Holbrook.

The ball movement of the Beach was superb, with Andrew McGuinness, James Garcia and Joe Deegan in the thick of the action in the middle, while strong rebound was also generated by Dan Leishman and Liam Catalfamo.

Ned Halley and Luke Symonds were also in good touch, playing with discipline and composure.

Adam Swain and Michael Schofield made the most of their opportunities when recalled and Sam Lamont was energetic through the midfield and up forward.

The Lifenet A-Reserves again produced a quality performance and most notable were the efforts of some of the young players who have graduated from last year’s premiership-winning colts team.

Chris Wells was exceptional on a wing and  Conor Boylan was effective around the ball while senior teammates like Andy Langsford, Liam Pardini, Ben Sweeny and Nic Bowe were also at the forefront of a 48-point win.

Unfortunately, the Plasterwise Phil Scott Colts found the bigger-bodied, more mature CBC outfit difficult to overcome and they slipped to a 22-point after a competitive performance.

Meanwhile, at Charles Riley Reserve a hat-trick of victories were achieved by the Hybrid Linings C5-Grade, the Coast to Coast Imports C5-Reserves and the Indian Ocean Hotel Brett Jones Colts.

The Hybrid Linings C5-Grade proved too classy in a 14-point triumph while the Coast to Coast Imports C5-Reserves, off the back some good work from Brennen Irvine, Joel Brown, Jack Steel, Aaron Miller and James Foley waltzed to a 34-point victory.

The Beyond Tools C4-Grade continues to punch above its weight, but sticks at the task against opposition clubs fielding their senior team while the GJ Osplumb C4-Reserves chalked up an impressive win against Bayswater.

The trip to Warnbro proved challenging for the two women’s teams, with the challenge of managing thin numbers again having an impact.

The Prestige Ceilings A-Grade team lost by six goals while it was a similar story for the Peak Body Fitness C3-Grade women.

It was a tough game for the girls who were short on numbers this week but were assist with a few players playing two games. Effort and intensity can’t be questioned but the opposition were a little classy on the day.

The Grange Residential Integrated Rules team also fell to a superior Willetton team.
