Beach master tough day

By Gary Stocks

On a challenging afternoon where winds squalls and rain swept through Percy Doyle periodically, the class and skill of the North Beach Cabling Network Solutions D1-Grade shone through on Saturday, claiming four precious premiership points.

Victory was essential as the Beach works to secure a finals berth and a youthful team responded to the pleas of coach Brett Christie and his support crew of Mark Kiely and Bill Duckworth.

With the bulk of this team comprising largely colts graduates of the past few years, their skill execution in tough conditions proved superior and paved the way for the Beach to despatch Fremantle CBC by 51 points.

Midfielders Curtis Hogg, Jamie Cosgrove, Shaheed Duke and Daniel Wheeler ensured there was an abundant supply inside the attacking 50 arc, while Cale Potts and Jarrod Darling capitalised.

Defensively, Shane Duckworth, in his return from a serious ankle injury, Jacob Fitzroy and Co. were outstanding while James Hay-Hendry was in eye-catching form throughout.

After leading by just 17 points at half-time, the Beach dominated the second half, kicking seven goals to two to ensure a well-sculptured victory.

Earlier, the Hybrid Linings D1-Reserves failed to capitalise on periods of dominance to lose their first game in two months, slipping to an 11-point loss.

At times the class of Chris Langsford, Alex Barden and Dylan McEvoy looked capable of securing victory for the Beach, but eventually lost to CBC 5.12 (42) to 4.7 (31) on a tough day for football.

Defenders Simon Wilson and Josh Stretch also excellked, along with Tony Mirabile and Pierce Keating.

Earlier in the day, the Tuck Plumbing Brett Jones Colts were also out-pointed by CBC, the visitors scoring a solid 35-point win – 11.12 (78) to 6.7 (43).

The Express Bins E2-Grade were no match for Hamersley Carine, losing by 69 points.
