Litmus test for the Beach

Austin Sheard is one of the young guns who has appreciated his opportunity in the O’Rourke Realty A-Grade

The concertina that is the top two-thirds of the Perth Football League premiership table continues to be shaped by the weekly fortunes of all teams.

The O’Rourke Realty A-Grade will look to play the game to their tune against University at McGillivray Oval tomorrow. It’s another classic battle between third and fourth and two clubs with mutual respect and history.

The much-heralded depth of the Beach has been plumbed in recent weeks with injury and unavailability creating opportunities. Generally the players given their chance have accepted it and played with great flair and date.

In recent times, when North Beach has ventured to the Scholars home ground, it has been cold and wet with bone chilling wind squalls. It seems that pattern is destined to continue.

Again, coach Shane Paap will be looking for his leadership group to set the standard, where players like Andrew McGuinness, Travis Gray, Kyle Cranley and Dan Leishman have been exceptional.

With youngsters liker Austin Sheard, Liam Catalfamo, Dan Ryan and Dylan Campbell also stepping up, the Beach has received some even contributions across the board and will again need to replicate that effort to get over the top of University to take a quantum leap in locking down a top three spot.

The Lifenet A-Reserves, unbeaten after 10 rounds, confront one of their toughest assignments of the season with University traditionally having strong depth.

With a number of players earning senior opportunities in the last month, the quality of players coming through has ensured standards have been maintained and the unblemished record has been kept intact.

The Plasterwise Phil Scott Colts face their biggest challenge against the perennial competition benchmarks. While it is a tough encounter, there is nothing like testing yourself against the best, so the Beach is looking forward to the match-up.
