Mixed results in first round

By Dave Barwick
Mixed results were recorded in the opening round of the season with three wins and four losses from our seven sides.
The O’Rourke Realty A-grade had a resounding 89-point win over newly promoted Wembley, with gun full-forward Mitch Holbrook opening his 2010 account with 11 goals, as well as giving a few off.
The Credent Financial A-reserves won a thriller by two points to get their season off to a good start and the Townley Group International E-grade won very well keeping Wembley to only one goal. Losses by the Nuchange Builders Phil Scott Colts, the Tuck Plumbing Fixtures Brett Jones Colts, The Broking Centre E-reserves and Pana’s Aquatic Pool Care “G-Bangers” tempered the celebrations on Saturday night.

This week sees six of our teams play Trinity Aquinas, with the “G’s”playing Beechboro. The fixtures are:-

O’Rourke Realty A-grade vs Trinity Aquinas @ Bill Grayden Reserve, Como 2.30pm

Credent Financial A-reserves vs Trinity Aquinas @ Bill Grayden Reserve 12.35pm

Nuchange Builders Phil Scott Colts vs Trinity Aquinas @ Bill Grayden Reserve 10.45am

Townley Group International E-grade vs Trinity Aquinas at Charles Riley  2.30pm

The Broking Centre E-reservese vs Trinity Aquinas at Charles Riley 12.35pm

Tuck Plumbing Fixtures Brett Jones Colts vs Trinity Aquinas @ Charles Riley 10.45am

Pana’s Aquatic Pool Care G-grade vs Beechboro @ Altone Park, Beechboro 2.30pm

Numerous players unavailable last week will be pressing for selection in the A Grade this week, with Joe Boys most likely available after injury, South Australian Chris Pahl, spring heeled Simon Pearce, Shane Paap, Dean Brennan and brothers Andrew and James Nunan also a chance for selection. Ben Wilson suffered a severe knock and will be unlikely this week.

An interesting observation from last week’s teams was that 11 of the A Grade were former Colts, 14 of the A Reserve Grade and 17 in the E Grade were all recent graduates of our colts program. This season we are stretched for numbers for our colts, so if you know of anyone who might be interested in a kick who is 19 or under (can’t turn 20 this year) please encourage them to come and join the Club. Training is on Monday and Thursday evenings at 6.00pm at Charles Riley. Please give either John Boys (0413952512), Gary Stocks (0412144588) or Dave Barwick (0410347556) if you know of anyone who may be interested.
